Celebrating nature and wellbeing with the return of Fruit Routes

As part of our programme for Mental Health Awareness Week, the Sustainability team and artist Anne-Marie Culhane are delighted to invite staff and students to a Fruit Routes walk later this month.

Taking place on Wednesday 19 May (in line with the easing of outdoor event restrictions from 17 May), the walk will begin at the Barefoot Orchard, located opposite the University Library on the Loughborough campus.

Attendees of the 1km walk* can see the edible fruit and nut trees located across the campus and learn more about the Fruit Routes project. The award-winning project aims to develop the campus as an edible landscape, planting fruit trees, increasing foraging opportunities and sharing knowledge with the wider community through engaging events each year.

Anne-Marie will also provide her insights and perspectives on this cultural and natural resource for students, staff and the local community, as it turns ten years old. It will also be an opportunity to come together to celebrate spring and learn how a healthy relationship with the natural world can support physical and mental health.

The walk will last approximately one hour and commence at 12.30pm and no booking is required.

From 1.30pm you can drop in to the Barefoot Orchard and try out teas from plants foraged on campus, find out more about Fruit Routes, pick up a Fruit Routes map and recipe book or just take some time out to enjoy the orchard.

*If you have any concerns about accessibility of the walk please get in touch. The route is mostly flat, but some areas are unpaved and there are some steps (however these can be avoided).
