Are you signed up to the electoral register?

At the start of each academic year, Loughborough University provides Charnwood Borough Council with the details of students that have consented to their data being shared for the purpose of being added to the Electoral Register.

If you would like to be added to the Electoral Register locally and you are happy for your information to be shared, then you can provide consent for the University to do so by entering the Self-Service portal and updating your preferences via the data preferences tab. You may have already done this as part of the University’s registration process, but if you are unsure, please check.

You should remember that, as a student, you can register to be on the Electoral Register at both your home and your term-time address (although you can only vote in one location in national elections).

Please note that only UK students are eligible to vote in parliamentary elections. Some international students may be eligible to vote in local and EU elections.

Loughborough University is committed to providing eligible students with the opportunity to take part in the electoral and democratic process, and, given the current political climate, want to be sure that you are aware of the steps that you can take if you want to vote locally.

If you want to find out more information on the Electoral Register – including the criteria for who can vote - visit the Charnwood Borough Council website.
