Staff: Get ready for multi-factor authentication

IT Services will be launching multi-factor authentication (MFA) in the first two weeks in December for all staff members and postgraduate researchers at the University.

MFA is an additional layer of security which will be used for those who access the VPN and off-campus web services.

By introducing this additional layer of authentication, the University is protecting user’s IT accounts from remote hacks and phishing attacks which exploit compromised or stolen user credentials.

A dedicated website about the initiative has been created which is available to view here. The website has FAQS and more information about Duo Security – the University’s chosen multi-factor authentication solution.

Duo Mobile is the app which needs to be installed on your device prior to the roll out across the University in order to access the VPN and web services as part of the MFA initiative.

The roll out to University staff will be taking place throughout the first half of December. In preparation for this, IT Services have been running a series of events throughout November to help staff to install the Duo app and answer any queries ready for when the service goes live.
