Spit Happens highly commended at 2019 Green Gown Awards

The University’s #Spit Happens initiative received a highly commended award at this year’s Green Gown Awards, which took place at the Glasgow Science Centre earlier this week.

Spit Happens was an event which took place across campus that aimed to increase the number of stem cell donors to the Anthony Nolan register. It was successful in adding 2,056 eligible donors, breaking the record for the number of stem cell donors recruited in a day at a university.

It was part of a collaboration between Loughborough University, Loughborough Students’ Union, Anthony Nolan and the Rik Basra Leukaemia Campaign.

Loughborough University was also shortlisted in the ‘Benefitting Society’ category for a Summer School project where architecture students were set a project brief to design an eco-friendly apple store to support the Sustainability team’s events and activities which take place across the year.

The Green Gown Awards shine a light on the inspiring and innovative work taking place across higher education. A full list of the 2019 Green Gown Award winners can be found here.
