Loughborough’s Health, Safety and Risk Manager elected Chair of Universities Safety and Health Association

Professor Neil Budworth has been formally elected as Chair of the Universities Safety and Health Association (USHA). The position involves promoting excellence in the planning, management and development of health and safety within the university sector.

USHA’s membership currently includes 143 UK universities and 13 overseas institutions. It primarily focuses on promoting best practice of health and safety in higher education.

As the Health, Safety and Risk Manager, Professor Budworth is responsible for the development and delivery of the University’s Health and Safety strategy. He has been in this role for three years but has also been a visiting lecturer and then visiting professor at the Design School since 2000.

Neil has said he will focus on issues related to stress, mental wellbeing and construction safety.

He commented: “It is a real honour to be elected as Chair of USHA. My aim is to take the Loughborough health ethos and use that to influence the sector.

“I will also learn from the best practice I see and bring it back to the University”.
