Graphics finalist stands out at national design festival

Jess Grindon, who is due to graduate with a BA in Graphic Communication and Illustration from Loughborough this week, was highlighted as “One to Watch” by industry professionals at this year’s D&AD New Blood Festival.

Richard Johnson, who teaches on the Graphic Communication and Illustration course at Loughborough, said: “Jess’ work was selected from large number of projects exhibiting at the event, in competition with universities all over the country. She will be spotlighted on the D&AD website and has been invited to attend the New Blood Academy, a four-week creative bootcamp running from 15 July. Well done Jess!”

Jess’ work was a response to a brief set by UK-based brewers Adnams. She said of her submission: “As a sustainability-driven brand, Adnams wanted to combine their passion for great tasting products with their love for the planet. Rather than telling people about all the brilliant stuff they do, I wanted to show how Adnams positively impacts society through a three-stage campaign. This is the branding of a honey-induced beer as part of the campaign to save the bees.”

D&AD New Blood Festival is an annual creative showcase held at The Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch, London. Thirty-three Graphics finalists were chosen to represent Loughborough, showcasing between them the specialisms of UX and UI application design, branding, illustration, publication design, and animation. The three-day event presents opportunities for students to establish contacts and in some cases, employment.

You can see more of Jess’ work and that of our Graphics finalists on the Loughborough University Arts Degree Show website.
