Students attend alumni-led visit at top London digital marketing agency

A group of Loughborough students recently visited the head offices of a top marketing agency in London to learn more about careers in digital marketing.

Loughborough alumnus Chris Lee joined boutique agency Jellyfish as Chief Financial Officer in 2006, a year after the company was founded with a team of just ten staff. Now, twelve years on, Jellyfish has over 500 staff across the world and was recently named the UK’s Top Independent Agency this year by The Drum.

The company provides expertise on a wide range of digital and marketing services, such as social media, SEO, branding and conversion optimisation.

Students from a wide range of degree programmes were invited to the head offices, and 29 students out of over 100 who applied were successfully selected based on their career aspirations and interest in digital marketing.

The students were welcomed with an introductory talk from Chris, who explained the agency’s origin as well as its company values. They also attended a presentation which explained in more detail what Jellyfish provides to companies alongside the inspiring career journeys of various members of their staff.

In the afternoon, they took part in a workshop where they were tasked with creating a storyboard to advertise Christmas biscuits and consider how best to market the product. The winning group of students were invited to spend another day at Jellyfish to learn more about digital marketing, and the day finished off with a tour of the offices which are based at the Shard in London.

Students commented how great the event had been, and one in particular said they “left feeling much more optimistic and excited about their future career”.

Chris Lee graduated from the University in 1994 with a degree in Economics and has been an advocate and partner of the University this year, helping to develop new ideas and opportunities to benefit students at Loughborough.

He has played a key part in Jellyfish being the lead sponsor of the Career Network’s Creative, Marketing and Media Industry conference, which will take place at Loughborough University London in May 2019.
