Candy Kittens guest lecture hits a sweet spot

Alumnus Edward Williams and Made in Chelsea star, Jamie Laing, visited the Loughborough campus to share an insight into their business, Candy Kittens.

The entrepreneurs shared top tips with over 200 students yesterday (21 February), forming part of the “Personal Best: My Story” lecture series.

Ed reminisced on his time as an Industrial Design student at Loughborough and told of how he got involved with Enterprise at the University, which landed him an office space for his business upon completing his studies.

Fast-forward a few years, and Ed and Jamie set up Candy Kittens, ready to take on the confectionery market.

They formed their business in 2012 and are now selling their products in 13 countries, having recently launched in the United States.

Students enjoyed hearing about the launch of the business and being inspired by the start-up that is offering a unique brand and striving to deliver an unrivalled customer experience.

Ed and Jamie were honest about challenges that they have faced in setting up the sweet company and talked about the different ways in which they embrace change, challenge and uncertainty, urging the audience to do the same. They emphasised the importance of self-awareness and building your personal brand, whether setting up a business or applying for jobs, in line with the Personal Best programme.

The pair are set to launch a new podcast next month called MOVE, which will encompass business and enterprising discussions, and they are also working to share stories of inspirational women in a social media campaign.

Ed graduated with a degree in Industrial Design and Technology in 2011.
