Closure of the ‘For sale and wanted’ board
The University’s For Sale and Wanted board will be shutting down by Monday 6 January, 2020 and will no longer accept new submissions from Friday 20 December, 2019.
There are several reasons the University has decided to close the board. It is part of a very old system which is being decommissioned, and there is also a lack of control over the posts submitted meaning it cannot be moderated effectively.
In addition, there have been a number of posts trying to sell items or promote external businesses which are in contravention of original rules of the board and with potential risk to the University’s reputation, both internally and externally.
The decision has been made considering the other alternatives now widely available elsewhere, such as eBay and Gumtree.
