Attention researchers: two weeks left to submit entries for the EPSRC scientific photo competition

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has launched its science photo competition for the sixth year, and there are just two weeks left to submit your entry.

Aimed at all EPSRC-supported researchers and doctoral students, the competition showcases some of the most fascinating images from research in action.

To help promote the outstanding work that takes place across the UK, the competition provides PhD students with the opportunity to photograph their current research project and environment. Previous winners have gone on to have their work featured in national newspapers such as the Telegraph and the Guardian.

Last year, Dr Andrew Capel from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences was awarded third place in the ‘Eureka and Discovery’ category.

The photo, taken at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, shows neurons (in green) and muscle fibres (in red), and was captured with a confocal microscope.

All entries must be submitted by 4pm on Wednesday 19 December. For more information about the competition, visit the EPSRC website.
