Artificial intelligence at Loughborough University

The Research Office is very interested in getting a better understanding of the artificial intelligence (AI) expertise that there is at Loughborough to support readiness to respond to funding opportunities as they are announced.

The Artificial Intelligence Sector Deal is the first commitment from government and industry to realise this technology’s potential, outlining a package of up to £0.95bn of support for the sector, which includes government, industry and academic contributions up to £603m in newly allocated funding, and up to £342m from within existing budgets, alongside £250m for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.

It is anticipated that there will be funding opportunities for all disciplines through this fund, ranging from fundamental research through to applications of AI. AI can be used for all kinds of problems including:

  • Analysing and recreating artwork
  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Prevent future environmental damage and better understand how to address developmental needs
  • Diagnosis of diseases

To further understand Loughborough University's expertise in this area, a survey has been created. By completing this survey information can be shared about new funding opportunities and events related to AI that might be of interest. The survey can be accessed here: AI Survey; it is open to staff only.

The closing date of the survey is Monday 31 December 2018. If you would like further information on the AI Sector Deal or more information about the survey, please contact Clare Edwards, Research Development Manager (c.e.edwards@lboro.ac.uk / 01509 223496).
