Student-run Flix Cinema in need of volunteers

After almost 72 years, Loughborough’s campus cinema, Flix, is at risk of closing.

Flix, a community favourite, is run by the University’s Film Society. The current Film Soc committee are graduating, or leaving after the summer exam period, leaving an urgent need for volunteers to help run the cinema.

To encourage new members to join the team, Flix is holding an Open Day on 3 June, 1-5pm. Loughborough University students, staff and members of the community are all welcomed, to find out more about the fantastic cinema.

In previous years, some members of Film Soc have remained, carrying over to their work to the next year and providing some continuity. This summer, the cinema is at risk of having no volunteers remaining to book films in time for the autumn term.

Help will also be needed to recruit new members for the Film Soc at the 2018 Freshers Fair in October, and to support these new members on an ongoing basis. Projection training will also be offered to new members.

The outgoing Chair of Flix, Jack Morgan, commented:

"We are looking for people with a passion for cinema across all roles, including projection, film booking, marketing, membership recruitment and ticket sales.

“You can drop in between 1pm and 5pm on 3rd June to learn more about the roles on offer, or email to pre-book a place on our projection training."

Flix is a not-for-profit cinema run by students at Loughborough University that is open to the community. Flix has state of the art digital projection system, big screen and 7.1 surround sound.  For more information please visit flix.org.uk
