Halls host week of exciting art activities for students

From 26-30 November, LU Arts worked in partnership with students to host the first ever Hall Arts Takeover.

Halls took part by hosting performances, workshops and creative activities for students to get involved in.

From pasta making, dance workshops and even a zombie life drawing class, there was something for everyone to try out and all activities were free to attend throughout the week.

All the performances in dining halls were by Loughborough students and a number of LSU Societies had the opportunity to showcase their talents during the week, including Tuxedo Swing, LSU Salsa, MuSoc and LSU Sing. Newly appointed singer-songwriter scholarship winner Michael Harry also took part.

Director of LU Arts, Nick Slater, said: “It was great to see a range of arts activity taking place across the halls of residence. The music and events animated the common rooms and dining halls and we hope this will inspire students to deliver more creative projects within their halls.”

One of the hall sub-wardens added: “The event was a great way to introduce students living in halls to the arts. Through the music and dance performances in the dining halls, as well as the workshops hosted in the common rooms, LU Arts proved just how accessible and fun the arts can be. Loughborough really is a #CreativeCampus!”

LU Arts is keen to fund more arts events in halls and would love to hear ideas from committees, students and wardens about activities that they would like to see happening. This could be anything creative, from drop-in workshops, talks and discussion events to exhibitions and performances. If you have an idea or would like funding for an event you are planning, then contact LU Arts at LUArts@lboro.ac.uk.
