Alumnus launches competition for female football writers

Alumnus Seth Burkett has joined up with a sports publishing company to promote women in football writing and publishing.

Seth is a writer himself and has partnered with Floodlit Dreams, an independent publisher of sports literature founded by Ian Ridley. The publisher has also partnered with Women in Football’s #WhatIf campaign.

They have launched a competition inviting submissions from female football writers, with the winner seeing their non-fiction book published as part of efforts to address the under-representation of female sports writers.

Of the competition, Seth said:

“I'm really excited to work with Women in Football and see submissions from fresh female football writers.

“Ian Ridley took a chance on me with my debut book and I'd love to repay the favour.”

Those who are interested in entering are required to submit a one-page synopsis of their book alongside a sample chapter. You do not have to be a professional writer to enter, but judges are looking for a ‘fresh, original and well-written’ piece. The deadline for submissions is Sunday 31 March 2019.

More information on the competition and how to apply can be found online.
