Following a successful Festival of Creative and Digital Methods conference on 21 January 2026, the Enhanced Academic Practice (EAP) team and School of Social Science and Humanities (SSH) would like to invite colleagues to join their Online Interactive Taster Series. Hear from a range of academic experts from EAP and SSH to enhance your knowledge of innovative research methods.

In this online workshop, Dr Tina Byrom (EAP) explores how photos and memory boxes operate as rich qualitative methods, enabling participants to delve deeply into meaningful aspects of their lives. Emphasis is placed on the co‑construction of meaning and knowledge, examining how researcher and participant interpretations intertwine but also attending to the delicate balance between analytical insight and preserving the participant’s original intent.

Practical examples will demonstrate how these approaches work in practice, drawing on material from Dr Byrom's 2008 PhD 'The Dream of Social Flying: social class, higher education choice and the paradox of widening participation'. You will be invited to consider how such approaches may be used in your own teaching and/or research.
