Donate unwanted books to the Library to support the annual Jólabókaflóð event

The Library is hosting Jólabókaflóðið in the last week of the Autumn term, where staff and students can browse a display and choose a free book to take away.

For the last few years, the Library has run an event in the last week of term in December called jólabókaflóð (an Icelandic tradition where everyone is given books to read on Christmas Eve). We have a display at the front of the Library in the last week of term and people are welcome to browse and take a book away - either as a gift for someone else or just to give them something to read themselves over Christmas.

Last year we gave away over 800 books so we are keen to at least match that this year. To do this, we would like anyone who has books they would like to donate to the event to drop them off at the Library - we will keep them safe until the event starts. They can be any genre as long as they are in good enough condition to be gifted.

It is also linked in with the work the Library has done to promote the National Year of Reading over the last 12 months and is a great way to finish the year with a book - although we would say that as librarians!
