Frauds & Scams Targeting International Students – Be Aware!
5 February
- For Students
- Student support
International students are often targeted by criminals whose aim is to obtain large sums of money or steal personal data. These scams can be very convincing and elaborate, with criminals pretending to be figures of authority such as UKVI officials, police officers, or customs officers, either from the UK or your home country.
Scammers may already know some of your personal details and try to make you believe that unless you do as they say, you could be arrested or have your Student visa cancelled.
If you receive unexpected communication like this:
- Do not share any personal details and do not make any payments.
- Do not be afraid to end the call immediately, whether by phone or video.
- If anyone asks you to pay a large sum of money, never pay without first discussing it with Student Services.
If you are concerned or need support, contact Student Services for help.
