New Mandatory Training: Defining Sexual Harassment and Consent (E6)

At Loughborough, we’re committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our staff, students, prospective students and visitors who access our services and facilities. The Defining Sexual Harassment and Consent (E6) mandatory training helps all staff recognise harassment and sexual misconduct, understand how to respond, and know when and where to report concerns.

Why should I care?

Understanding when and how to recognise harassment and sexual misconduct and what to do if you are concerned could make a huge difference to someone who is at risk.

It can be difficult to decide if things you notice, or something a colleague or student shares with you, is something you should be worried about and what you should do next. This can result in incidents not being reported.

It is not enough for staff to just know about what constitutes harassment and sexual misconduct, they need to know what to do next.

What is the University doing about this?

From 1 March 2026, the University Leadership Group endorsed the addition of this new mandatory training that all staff should complete.

Not only is this training a legal requirement for students, there is a further requirement for staff to understand and know how to support and report if necessary. It is therefore the right thing to do and aligns with our strategy of Creating Better Futures. Together.

What does the training consist of?

All staff can access the module on Learn through their computer or smart device and it should take about 40 minutes to complete.

The module consists of three sections including videos with subtitles and short presentations with voiceover and transcripts. After each section you’ll be asked to complete a three-question quiz and achieve an 80% pass rate before you can move on to the next section. You can take the quiz more than once if needed.

You can access the training here.

When do I need to complete the training by?

All staff should complete this mandatory training by 31 July 2026 at the latest. It will need to be renewed every three years.

As part of my role, I undertook Safeguarding training do I still need to undertake Harassment and Sexual Consent (E6) training for staff?

Yes, the Defining Sexual Harassment and Consent (E6) training is new mandatory training and provides further specific detail which is required and not provided in the Safeguarding training.
