Phoebe started officiating at grassroots level at matches across the East Midlands, after taking an interest in football from a young age and completing her refereeing qualification at age 14.
She became more involved in the FA as she gained experience, before transitioning into women’s professional football at 20 years old. Since then, she has officiated regularly in the Women’s Super League, including at the National Play Off in the 2025/26 season.
As Senior Sport Volunteering Officer, Phoebe has made the most of Loughborough’s high-quality facilities, which she says allowed her to maintain the physical standards for high-level officiating.
She also believes her role at Loughborough Sport helped her to develop key skills that make her a stronger football official, including communication, decision making, and leadership.
After joining the officiating team at Wembley stadium for the Women’s FA Cup Final, she commented:
“Walking out at such an iconic stadium, in front of a large crowd and as part of a top-level officiating team was an incredibly special experience.”
Following her success, Phoebe is keen to encourage other people to get involved in officiating:
“I would encourage anyone thinking about officiating to give it a try! Refereeing has provided me with so many opportunities that I never expected, both on and off the pitch. It’s important to be open to being uncomfortable at times, as that’s often where you learn the most and to always look for ways to improve. If you’re willing to commit and back yourself, there are so many opportunities within the game.”
