This day is recognised annually across the world to remember the six million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions of other people killed from 1933-1945 under the Nazi persecution and in genocides across the world since.
The following events will be held to mark the day:
At 12pm on Tuesday 27 January in Schofield Building 101, Dr Paul Maddrell will host a lecture on 'The Preventability of the Holocaust'. This lecture examines the major steps in the sequence of events which led to the Holocaust and shows that, in each and every case, they were preventable. You can watch the lecture here.
There will be a vigil at the Hazelrigg Fountain at 4pm. University Chaplains will lead a short service of reflection and remembrance, with readings, poems and silence.
In Loughborough town, a memorial will also take place on the same day. On Tuesday 27 January, 12.30pm, at the Bandstand at Queen’s Park in Loughborough, there will be a short ceremony to commemorate the victims of genocide in every time and every place. Please note this event is not led by Loughborough University.
Please remember that additional support services are always available for those impacted:
