Arts Workers are Loughborough students who can be booked to run creative workshops for both students and staff. You don’t need to study a creative subject; you just need a skill you can confidently share with others. This could include crafts like crochet, embroidery, pottery, painting, weaving, macramé, origami or printing, or creative skills from other areas such as writing, music, or performing arts.
The Arts Worker scheme is an opportunity to receive free training, gain valuable experience and earn money.
To become an Arts Worker, you must complete a free online training course covering:
- how to plan and structure a workshop
- health and safety considerations
- how to work effectively with different participant groups
This opportunity is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate (taught and research) students, including those based at Loughborough London.
To apply to be an Arts Worker for the 2025–26 academic year, you should expect to remain enrolled at Loughborough until:
- September 2026 (postgraduate students)
- June 2027 (undergraduate students)
This ensures you have sufficient time to complete the training and deliver workshops during your studies.
Arts Workers are paid £21.68 per hour (Grade 6, spinal point 27, as of January 2026). Payment covers planning and preparation time as well as delivery. As a guide, the minimum payment for a two-hour workshop is currently £81.30.
Training will take place before the end of the 2026 spring term. All training is online and is likely to be delivered in two two-hour sessions.
If you have any questions before applying, please email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk.
The deadline for 2025–26 applications is Monday, 23 February at 10pm.
After applications close, LU Arts will review all submissions and contact you by Friday, 6 March with further details about the online training.
You can find more information about becoming an Arts Worker on the LU Arts website.
