Plans for new on-campus accommodation approved

Charnwood Borough Council has approved plans to develop a new Hall of Residence on Loughborough University’s campus.

The new Hall will be situated in the Central Park area of the East Midlands campus, close to the Edward Herbert Building.

The development will provide 552 bedspaces across five blocks. The blocks will be set within landscaped surroundings, including a shared plaza and a landscaped square.

Feedback from students at all levels consistently indicates that many prefer to live in University-managed accommodation that is sited on or adjacent to the campus. This affords them easy access to the University’s academic, leisure and support facilities.

The new hall will help to meet the increasing student demand for well-managed, self-catered, en-suite facilities, with more shared study and social space.

Construction is expected to begin in the new year.
