#RentSmart: Helping students make confident accommodation choices

Throughout November, the Student Accommodation Centre, Student Advice and Support Services, and hall warden teams worked together on the #RentSmart campaign, reaching students across all Loughborough University halls to provide trustworthy housing guidance.

Teams visited self-catered halls during high tables and catered dining halls, speaking directly with students about their accommodation options for the next academic year. Key messages included:

  • There’s no pressure when you apply: you’re free to accept or decline your offer should you receive one.
  • Flexibility for placements: if students secure a placement, they can cancel their halls offer free of charge.
  • Checking contracts is essential: always review agreements carefully. Our Student Advice and Support team offer a free contract checking service.
  • Upcoming changes: the Renters’ Rights Bill may affect the accommodation landscape.

Common concerns such as placements, flatmates, and returning to current halls were addressed, with guidance highlighting that students are more likely to secure a place in the halls they already occupy.

Applications to return to halls are open until 29 January, and students can view all university-approved off-campus options on Loughborough Studentpad.

The #RentSmart campaign demonstrates the strength of collaboration across teams, ensuring students receive consistent, accurate advice supported by hall wardens and staff.
