Loughborough University marks White Ribbon Day

White Ribbon Day (25 November) is a dedicated time to reaffirm our collective commitment to preventing gender-based violence.

The theme for White Ribbon Day 2025 is ‘We Speak Up’. The University will mark this day through events which encourage all to speak up and promote a culture in which women and girls are safe, equal, and respected.

Student Services will host an event in the Edward Herbert Building (EHB) Atrium on 25 November, from 11am-2pm, in recognition of White Ribbon Day. The event will feature a range of stalls providing details about the support services available within the University and the wider community, as well as their commitment to the White Ribbon campaign.

In addition to University services, several external organisations will be present including:

Maia, Loughborough University’s Women’s Network, will also be running a White Ribbon Day panel discussion on 25 November, 1.30pm-2.30pm, in WAV041 and online, open to all students and staff. Featuring voices from across academia and professional services, the panel will unpack what meaningful allyship looks like, how to challenge harmful behaviours constructively, and what steps we can all take to foster safer, more inclusive environments. Whether you're just beginning your allyship journey or looking to deepen your impact, this discussion will offer insight, reflection, and actionable guidance for all. Book your place for the panel event.

Additionally, a resource station will be available at our London campus in the Student Services space, featuring a range of information from external organisations as well as highlighting University resources.

We would also like to remind all students to complete the ‘Your Path’ mandatory training, designed to provide clear information about consent, respectful behaviour, recognising and responding to harmful situations, safety, reporting, and support available at Loughborough. All students need to engage in this training either online via LEARN, or via bookable in-person training.

You can find more information about this training on our Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Awareness Hub.

How can I support White Ribbon Day?

  • Encourage men to hold themselves accountable to women and to each other
  • Use your voice to challenge sexist attitudes and behaviour when you see and hear it
  • Know where to signpost people affected by violence to access support
  • Use #WeSpeakUp on social media to spread the word
