These sessions were open to all staff and provided valuable insights into the University’s ongoing preparations for the REF 2029 submission.
Attendees were able to gain a deeper understanding of the REF, hearing about its purpose, significance and impact on Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The presentation highlighted how REF assessments influence the distribution of approximately £2 billion in annual block grant research funding, and how REF plays a key role in ensuring accountability for public investment in research and provides a benchmark for evaluating institutional research reputations.
Each Roadshow concluded with a Q&A offering staff the opportunity to raise any questions.
The full REF 2029 guidance is expected in 2026 and the Research and Innovation Office (RIO) will continue to communicate developments and progress on the University’s preparedness for REF 2029 over the coming months.
For those who were unable to attend, the Roadshow recording is available online.
