Update to academic promotion application form and guidance

The academic career path at Loughborough involves colleagues making an application to the University via the Dean, to be considered for promotion to either Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professor using an agreed set of criteria.

Supporting the University’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion aim, the career pathways are now more inclusive and reflective of the Academy and wider society, both of which have changed significantly since the promotion criteria were last reviewed eight years ago.

The current criteria and processes were launched in autumn 2023. Following a review, the application form has been simplified and the guidance updated, including an interactive presentation to enable colleagues to understand the pathways. Please use the online template for applications to the promotion committees from April 2024 onwards.

As School promotion committees are taking place soon, with the University promotion committees planned for June, Deans have also been asked to ensure all academic colleagues are aware of these changes and know to use the new application form.

If you have any questions about applying for academic promotion, please contact your Dean of School in the first instance.
