Exhibition explores the meaning of home

Within and Without Home is a collection of creative work by Doctoral Researchers in the HOME (Harnessing Opportunities for Meaningful Environments) Centre for Doctoral Training at Loughborough University.

The exhibition is running 5-16 February, in Charnwood Arts in Loughborough and will be open to view 10am-4pm, Monday-Saturday. It is free to attend with no booking required.

The projects are focused on home and homelessness, aiming to approach the topic in a creative way from multiple perspectives. They explore home as a physical space, as well as its nature inside and outside of the dwelling.

The exhibition features mixed media pieces including photography, soundscapes, virtual reality and interactive exhibits from Dave Angel, Eszter Hegymegi, Holly Turpin, Robert Gaukroger and Sara Christou.

The Doctoral Researchers worked with The Bridge who provide specialized housing-related advice and support in Leicestershire and Rutland and Falcon Support Services who provide temporary accommodation for those facing homelessness.

SOFA in Loughborough has also loaned some of their stock for the exhibition to create a homely atmosphere.

Holly Turpin commented: “This exhibition is chance to see some of the work that has been created so far as part of the HOME Centre for Doctoral Training. We're really excited to share the various creative works with you as we interrogate the social issue of home and homelessness, and ask what can we do to help?”
