University community invited to vigil marking two years since the start of the Ukraine war

Members of the University community will be holding a vigil on campus next Friday (23 February) to commemorate two years since the war in Ukraine began.

This vigil is an opportunity to show solidarity with our Ukrainian staff and students, honour the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people and remember those who have been tragically killed. Together we call for peace and reject violence, and hope this will prevail.

It will take place from 2pm-4pm starting with speeches led by the Chaplaincy and members of the Ukrainian Society at the Hazlerigg Fountain before a minute’s silence will be held, which will then be followed by a walk across campus. The walk will include a pause at the University Chaplaincy for those who wish to leave the vigil or go for a personal prayer.

All members of our University community are welcome to attend. Donations will be collected at the vigil for Rescue Now, a charity which works with children who have been affected by war.
