Trans and Non-binary Support and Advice: New drop-in service for staff

In response to feedback from colleagues, we are trialling a drop-in service to replace bookable sessions to increase accessibility and reach a wider range of staff.

A confidential and safe space, these sessions provide space and time, as well as a friendly face and a listening ear, for staff to access support and advice in a way that is right for them.

The drop-in sessions will run from 1.30pm-2.30pm every Wednesday afternoon. They will be held in the quiet room in the Centre of Faith and Spirituality within the Edward Herbert Building. There is no need to book, you can simply turn up during these times. Sessions will alternate weekly between the Trans and Non-binary drop-in which focuses on gender, and the LGBT+ drop-in which focuses on sexuality (more details can be found below).

Trans and Non-binary Drop-in, Support and Advice Service:

These sessions offer support and advice for transgender and non-binary staff as well as those questioning their gender identity. As just a few examples, we cater to staff needing specific advice or support regarding social and/or medical transition or disclosing their identity to others. Parents and carers can also access the service for help with those in their care.

LGBTQ+ Drop-in, Support and Advice Service:

These sessions offer support and advice for LGBTQ+ students as well as those questioning their sexuality. As just a few examples, we cater to students needing specific advice or support regarding disclosing their identity to others, navigating LGBTQ+ relationships and how to deal with a lack of acceptance from others.

This service is led by Lisa Vine, an LGBT+ advocate, consultant and trainer based in Loughborough, who is also a Loughborough University alumna and previous Chair of Loughborough Student Union's LGBT+ Association. With almost eight years’ experience supporting transgender and non-binary children, teenagers and young adults, Lisa led a nationally recognised, award winning regional BBC Children in Need project based in Leicestershire.

Please note that drop-in sessions are also open to students. Conversations will take place in a private room, but there is a shared waiting space so there may be cross over with colleagues and students. Confidentiality will be discussed with Lisa at the time of accessing the drop-in.

Please contact EDI@lboro.ac.uk if you have any questions.
