LU Arts is running a performance poetry event featuring student performers alongside guest poet Charly Cox. Speech Bubble will be held on Monday 4 March from 7.30pm in The Lounge, LSU.

Charly Cox is a prominent British poet and mental health activist. Diagnosed with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder 2, and PTSD at 17, she turned to writing as a therapeutic outlet. Cox gained recognition for her debut collection, ‘She Must Be Mad’, a bestselling work delving into themes of coming-of-age, body image, mental health, and dating. Formerly a digital producer, she transitioned to full-time writing after sharing her poetry on Instagram, leading to a book deal in 2018.

In addition to her literary accomplishments, Cox serves as an ambassador for the mental health research charity MQ Foundation. She further explored the impact of social media and digital life in her book ‘Validate me: A Life of Code-dependency,’ published in 2019. Cox's contributions to the literary world and mental health advocacy earned her a Forbes 30 Under 30 award under the Art and Culture category in Europe, as well as recognition as one of Elle Magazine's 20 Power Players in 2018. Charly Cox headlines our LU Arts Speech Bubble event, bringing her unique perspective and powerful voice to the forefront.

Speech Bubble is free to attend but booking is recommended, and it is open to everyone aged 18+, including students, staff, and members of the public. If you are a student or member of staff at Loughborough University, you can perform at this event, however you must register for a slot in advance as spaces are limited. All abilities are welcome; it doesn’t matter if you’ve never performed before. We welcome performers from all backgrounds, and you can expect a friendly and supportive audience at the event.
