Students: Your chance to have your creative work featured in a brand-new University journal

LU Arts is looking for student contributions to be featured in an upcoming student journal which will be distributed in the next academic year.

Many people find enormous wellbeing benefits from regular journaling, so LU Arts wants to encourage people to try this out in the hope that they will establish good habits. The journal will include prompts, space for reflections and templates for daily journaling.

There are two categories for submissions:

  • Creative Writing (approximately 10 in total) – this could focus on the everyday aspects of life and routines, or the inspiration people take from journaling such as goal setting, tracking moods, and keeping track of the good things in life.

  • Illustrations/drawings – Whether it’s a full-page, standalone piece of work or a design used to accompany a creative writing piece, or maybe even something for the journal owner to colour in, the team are open to ideas that aim to inspire and attract our student community.

The competition is open to all students from both the Loughborough and London campus. If chosen, you will be paid £30 and receive six copies of the finished journal.

To enter, simply fill out this online MS Form. Applicants should attach examples of their work to showcase their style – creative writing students will be asked to produce a short poem of 1-3 verses or 2-3 paragraphs of prose, whilst illustrations or drawings will be a stand-alone design or to accompany a piece of creative writing.

The deadline for applications is Friday 27 May at 5pm. Students who are successful will be contacted by 3 June and will be expected to submit their final work by 24 June to ensure the journal is ready for the start of the 2022/23 academic year.

Students whose work is featured will be provided with copies of the journal available to pick up from the LU Arts office in Martin Hall during the autumn term. Please note if you are due to graduate this year you will be sent copies in the post.

Further information about the competition can be found on the LU Arts website
