LU Arts Journal - Student callout

We're looking for student contributions of creative writing and artwork for an LU Arts Journal.

LU Arts would like to produce our very own journal which we will give away to students at events on campus during 2022/23. Many people find enormous wellbeing benefits from regular journaling; we want to encourage people to try this out in the hope that they will establish good habits. Our journal will include prompts, space for reflections and templates for daily journaling.

We are looking for student contributions to the journal design and content and this falls into two categories:

Creative writing

We are looking for short verses of original poetry or prose to intersperse throughout the journal. The writing could focus on the mundane and everyday aspects of life, finding the quirky or amusing in the routine and the everyday. You could take inspiration from the different things that people use a journal to record. This can include goal setting, tracking moods, noting down things to be grateful for and recording or tracking things like water intake and sleep patterns.

We are looking for approximately 10 creative writing pieces.

Illustrations/drawings

We will commission students to produce an illustration or drawing to accompany each creative writing piece; each one designed by a different student. In addition to this, we will commission at least three students to produce a full-page, stand-alone illustration/drawing that would be suitable for the journal owner to colour in if they wanted to.

We are also open to other ideas for suitable student-produced content.

What will I get?

If selected, students will be paid £30 for their work and will receive 6 copies each of the finished journal. Being involved in this project will contribute to your employability and will look good on your CV and in your portfolio. We can also link to your website or social media account from our website and social media channels to give you and your work visibility.
