Personal Best: My Story – Oliver Sidwell

The inspiring events series returns with a talk on 30 March, 1pm-2pm, from successful businessman Oliver Sidwell.

Personal Best: My Story talks give students valuable insight into the career paths of Loughborough alumni. The sessions are inspirational and give students an opportunity to ask questions about life after Loughborough.

Oliver Sidwell graduated with a BSc in Geography and Business Management in 2007. He saw an information gap in the market for students seeking job placements as it was difficult to find information about placement roles and the companies offering them.

Upon returning to university in his third year, Oliver and two of his friends put together a business plan for RateMyPlacement to help inspire students to take the first step in their career. They won the LU Business Plan competition in March 2007 and the prize money was invested into building a website.

RateMyPlacement.co.uk is a platform created for students, by students, offering information about placements and internships from those who have experienced them first-hand. The website attracts 2.6 million visitors annually, advertising more than 1,500 jobs last year, and they recently surpassed 50,000 reviews, all submitted by students that completed undergraduate work experience.

The event can be attended in-person on our London campus and online via Microsoft Teams. You can also attend a live-stream of the event in the Start-Up Lab on the Loughborough Campus.
