Boost to sports participation and support to sports start-ups as Loughborough University London and Sport Tech Hub announce partnership

Loughborough University London and Sports Tech Hub have announced a partnership to use tech innovation to increase participation levels in physical activity and sport.

The announcement is part of an ongoing relationship between Loughborough University London and Sport Tech Hub who have worked together since 2017, with an extension of the partnership now agreed until 2023.

Through this agreement, Loughborough University London share their expertise and guidance to ventures through workshops, mentoring, events and pitching opportunities.

As well as this, Sport Tech Hub will have access to the future leaders of sports innovation, through Loughborough University London’s Collaborative Project, Digital Skills programme, Talent+ programme, and Mentoring opportunities.

Loughborough University London has been a long-term support to start-ups in the Sport Tech Hub community, as well as those taking part in its Innovation programme. The partnership will offer start-ups exposure to network of sports leaders, expert advice, and research of the physical activity, sports, and technology sector.

The partnership continues to be seen in action, with some exciting joint initiatives taking place in recent weeks with Loughborough University London and Sports Tech Hub recently sponsoring the Tech and Digital award at London Sport Awards.

Ben Cole, Head of Strategic Projects and Future Space said: “We at Loughborough University London are delighted to be able to continue working with Sport Tech Hub and support the start-ups connected to Sport Tech Hub. We are passionate about enabling companies and individuals to grow and succeed.

"We’re honoured to be able to sponsor the London Sports Award because it truly reflects our ethos and ambitions to champion sports innovation and celebrate those working to make sports accessible for all.”

Jennie Rivett, Head of Consultancy and Partnerships London Sport, said of the partnership extension: “We are really pleased to announce our partnership extension with Loughborough University London, who have been such valuable support to Sport Tech Hub over the past four years. Ventures in our community will continue to benefit from their academic expertise in the sport tech space and to learn from their innovation students.”

The London Sport Awards celebrated the efforts of volunteers, physical activity projects and sports organisations who have helped keep London moving, with the Tech and Digital award, highlighting how technology innovations can deliver real societal value.
