Coming Soon – Multi Factor Authentication for Manually Registered IT Accounts

Changes from 1 September 2021.

IT Services recently enabled multi-factor authentication (MFA) for staff, doctoral researchers and students.

MFA is an additional layer of IT security that requires you to verify your identity when logging into certain systems and services. You may have already encountered MFA when doing online banking.

On Wednesday 1 September, IT Services will be enabling MFA for manually registered IT accounts that use the VPN and access services off the campus network. These are accounts not derived from our HR or Student Systems. Examples of such accounts are external visitors and collaborators, shared mailboxes, role-specific accounts etc.

Account holders will be contacted directly and given guidance on how to enrol on MFA, with pre-enrolment possible from 2 August and the change taking effect from 1 September. A list of the accounts affected will be circulated to Operations Managers, Professional Service Directors, and other stakeholders in advance for review.

If you have any questions in advance of the change, please email mfa@lboro.ac.uk or call IT Services on 01509 222 333.
