Student enterprise shortlisted for national competition needs your vote

A Loughborough University-based start-up has made it through to the online voting stage of this year’s Tata Varsity Pitch Competition, and they need your help.

GradSmart is an upcoming platform which connects graduates to jobs they love. A survey previously carried out by Allaboutcareers.com asked undergraduates about their career aspirations and it was revealed that almost half (44%) were unable to define the industry they would like to pursue after graduating. Last year, this included a few Loughborough University students who felt a little lost when searching for graduate opportunities.

So, they decided to pursue GradSmart: described as a job matchmaking service, the enterprise aims to connect graduates with careers they are truly passionate about through personality tests that also analyse the user’s ambitions and interests. The service then matches them with suitable career pathways, relevant jobs and even directly with employers.

The Tata Varsity Pitch Competition is a national initiative open to both current students and recent graduates, celebrating early-stage ventures coming out of universities and colleges across the UK that have great potential.

Jack Lam, Founder of GradSmart said: “By working with the Loughborough Enterprise Network I was able to find my passion, which is helping other students find theirs. As a team we’re really excited to be competing in the Varsity Pitch, and with your support we have the chance to dramatically increase the number of graduates who leave university and land into a career they love.”

Amanda Berry, Academic Lead for Student and Graduate Enterprise added: “It’s great to see another Year in Enterprise business reach the online voting stage of the Varsity Pitch competition. Jack has worked extremely hard on GradSmart and has made huge progress since the start of his placement year. We have just this week to get as many Loughborough votes as we can for Jack and GradSmart to help him progress to the next stage.”

GradSmart have made it through to the Online People’s Vote and are keen to gather support to increase their chances of winning the competition. This will help them secure the future of their business by winning up to £15,000 in funding.

This funding will be used to further develop the GradSmart Web Platform and add functionality to help improve the job matchmaking even further. As a start-up in the current climate this will allow the business to focus on what matters most, which is matching students with their future employers.

You can see GradSmart’s pitch and vote for the team here until Friday 2 October at 5pm.

As an added thank you to those who show their support, GradSmart are running a £50 giveaway that will be tripled to £150 if they win. All you need to do is screenshot your vote and post it on your Instagram IG Story – more details can be found on the GradSmart Instagram.
