LU Arts 2020/21 scholarship applications are now open

Every year LU Arts awards nine scholarships across a range of art forms and applications are now open to students at both campuses.

These prestigious awards are offered to students who demonstrate ability, passion and commitment in a particular art form; they are not related to your degree and they encourage involvement in the arts outside of your studies.

Each scholarship winner will receive a £200 cash prize and a tailored package of tuition or mentoring to develop their skills and knowledge further. There are also opportunities to showcase your talents during your scholarship year with performances at University events. Details for each scholarship package are available on the application form – there is a separate form for music applications.

The scholarships available are:

  • Creative Writing / Spoken Word
    • This may include poetry, fiction, drama and hypertext
  • Performing Arts
    • This may include drama, dance and other forms of performance in the arts not covered by the other scholarships
  • Film and Media Scholarships
    • This may include film making, visual arts and media including photography, sound art and music production
  • Music – Instrumental
    • This is open to instrumentalists in all genres (except singing) regardless of instrument, genre or formal qualifications
  • Music – Singing
    • This is open to singers with a classical or popular repertoire
  • Music – Singer-Songwriter/ Contemporary Solo artist
    • This is open to solo music artists working in any musical genre

As the ambition of the scholarships is to support extra-curricular activity, they are not open to students whose degree directly relates to the artform in which the scholarship is offered.  If you are unsure as to whether you are eligible, please email for clarification. Please note that the Creative writing/spoken word scholarship is open to students studying English. Scholarships are not open to previous winners.

You can apply online and applications close at midday on 19 October 2020. You can only apply for one scholarship per year. Any questions can be sent to
