About this event

Loughborough University’s REACH Staff Network warmly invites students, staff, family, friends, and the wider community to help celebrate the second African/ Caribbean event to be held on campus.

During the event you will be treated to delicious and authentic African and Caribbean food and drink, and entertainment.

This event coincides with National Windrush Day on 22 June, which marks the 76th anniversary of the arrival of the passengers of the ‘Empire Windrush’ to the UK. The event will celebrate the contribution that the Windrush generation has made and continues to make in the UK.

The event will feature:

  • 5.15pm - Professor Sheryl Williams will open the event
  • 5.30pm - A monologue performance on Windrush experiences
  • Music from DJ Gary Warner
  • Vocal Artist Luke Powell performing Bob Marley and UB40 hits

This event will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the University gaining the Race Equality Charter (REC) award. A member of the REACH Staff Network will describe the amazing work that has helped to advance race equity during the past year.

There is no dress code, however please feel free to wear tropical colours and add to the celebratory occasion.
