Creative Methods Exchange: Across the Life Course

Join us for a hands-on, in-person day exploring how creative and participatory research methods can be shared and adapted across disciplines and across the life course. Featured speakers will lead short presentations and demonstrations of methods they use in their own work, including shared reading, participatory action research and reminiscence theatre. Each is followed by facilitated discussion on how these approaches might travel between disciplines and across generations.

The aim is to identify shared methods across SHAPE disciplines. You'll leave with new methods to try, potential new collaborators, and a clearer sense of where your practice overlaps with other researchers.

For this event, we're focusing on life course approaches. Our speakers work with younger and older people, and we're keen to make intergenerational connections through shared methodologies. You don't need to work with a particular age group to take part as the methods we'll explore are relevant across research contexts.

Who it's for: Early career researchers and other staff/students using or curious about creative and participatory methods.

Speakers include:

  • Prof Siân Adiseshiah: Intergenerational reading groups
  • Dr Eva Rogers: Researcher reflexivity, physical activity and psychiatry
  • Dr Carolynne Mason and Dr Janine Coates: Participatory research with young people
  • Dr David Maidment and Dr Catherine Rees: CURTAIN: the Clinical Use of Reminiscence Theatre with older Adults to Improve Nutrition in care homes’
  • Dr Katie Parsons: Embodied methodologies
