Doctoral Researchers - Enter the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition!

Enhanced Academic Practice (Organisation Development & Change) is excited to announce the return of the University’s much-loved Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition for Doctoral Researchers.

Developed by the University of Queensland, Australia, 3MT® is an engaging and high-energy competition that challenges researchers to present their thesis and its impact in just three minutes, using only a single static slide. The format encourages clarity, confidence, and creativity in communicating complex ideas.

Last year, around 90 Doctoral Researchers from across all Schools stepped up to the challenge, making it one of the most vibrant and well attended 3MT® cycles we’ve ever had. We can’t wait to see who takes on the challenge this year!

Why take part?

Competitors will have the opportunity to:

  • Sharpen their ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity
  • Strengthen presentation, storytelling, and public speaking skills
  • Inspire audiences with the real world relevance of their research
  • Showcase their work to colleagues across the University (and beyond!)

Audience members can also enjoy discovering the range and real world relevance of doctoral research taking place across Loughborough.

How It Works

Each School will host its own 3MT® competition (dates and times to be announced), with each School winner progressing to the University’s 3MT® Grand Final at the Summer Showcase on 29 June 2026.

The overall University winner will then go on to represent Loughborough at the regional and national 3MT® competitions.
