Update: Temporary car parking and road closures

Please note the following changes to the temporary car parking provision and road closures, due to the new student accommodation development.

Car parking

Due to the ongoing wet weather conditions, the Matthew Arnold temporary car park, adjacent to the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM), remains closed until further notice while further work is undertaken to make the surface more robust. We will provide a further update next week (w/c 2 February 2026).

The second temporary car park (the old Ann Packer site) adjacent to the Design School remains open.

The short-stay swimming pool car park, accessible from the east (Epinal Way) entrance, will remain available until further notice, for staff only, as a long-stay option between 8am and 5.30pm. Colleagues who work at the Epinal Way end of campus are encouraged to make use of it, to release pressure on central car parks.

The multi-storey car park (Car Park 1) near the Wolfson Building and Holywell Park are also likely to have capacity and the frequency of the on-campus shuttle bus service has been increased to make it easier to get from these car parks to the central and eastern areas of the campus.

Road and access closures

From Tuesday 3 February the pedestrian access off the A512 Asby Road onto Margaret Keay Road (near to the Cayley hall of residence) will close. This is to enable the construction traffic to access the new student accommodation development site. The route will remain closed to pedestrians for the duration of the construction project.

From 9 February, the footpath in front of Wavy Top building will be closed for general access. The path will remain in use as a fire escape from the Wavy Top building.

Additional signage will be installed to help pedestrians navigate the closures and revised routes.
