LSU’s Commitment to Sustainability

The Sustainability Team is pleased to share that all of the LSU Senior Leadership Team have recently completed Carbon Literacy Training and are now all certified Carbon Literate.

Carbon Literacy Training is an internationally recognised sustainability education programme created by the Carbon Literacy Project, designed to help people understand climate change and take meaningful steps to reduce carbon emissions. The training is delivered through two half-day sessions where attendees learn about the science of climate change, what causes carbon emissions and how to reduce them as an individual and as a community. At the end of the training, all learners are required to make two pledges: an individual and a group pledge. All of the LSU SLT made group pledges surrounding their commitment to drive sustainability in LSU through its operations and beyond.

Mia Jackson, LSU President, commented: “I’m really proud that the LSU SLT has completed their Carbon Literacy training. As a student-led organisation, it’s important that we lead by example and ensure our decisions are informed by a strong understanding of the climate crisis and our responsibility to act.”

As part of Loughborough’s Sustainability Strategy, we have the aim to develop staff and students who have a high degree of sustainability awareness so that they can take responsibility for their own actions and behaviours to influence others. Taking part in Carbon Literacy Training is a great way to support Loughborough’s Sustainability Strategy.

The next Carbon Literacy Training will be delivered on Thursday 12 and Thursday 19 February, 1pm-4pm and is open to both staff and students. Sign up for Carbon Literacy Training here.
