The guide provides step-by-step advice for every stage of equipment management – from procurement and repair to reuse, transfer, and responsible disposal. It aims to reduce unnecessary purchases, extend equipment lifespans, improve reuse opportunities, and ensure safe, sustainable disposal in line with University standards.
This resource was developed from the work of the Technical Sustainability Champions (TSC) Carolyn Kavanagh and Rainer Fernandes and has been shaped with the support of colleagues across Health and Safety, Sustainability, and Procurement teams.
The guidance is intended for all staff involved in laboratory equipment management, including faculty, technical staff, and researchers. It brings together key University resources such as the Sustainable LabCycling Teams Channel, the Sustainable Procurement Guide, and disposal procedures, offering clear routes to ensure best practice across Schools and Services.
The new guidance is available via the Health and Safety website.
