Policy Awareness and Action: Transparency of Personal Relationships at Work

The Transparency of Personal Relationships at Work Policy is effective now. This policy is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a fair, respectful, and inclusive working environment for everyone.

Personal relationships, whether romantic, familial, or close friendships, can sometimes intersect with professional responsibilities. To ensure transparency and protect the integrity of our workplace, we’re asking all staff to declare any relationships that may give rise to a conflict of interest or perceived bias. This is not about scrutiny, it’s about safeguarding trust, fairness, and professionalism across our organisation.

What you need to know:

  • The policy applies to all employees, regardless of role or seniority.
  • Disclosures are handled confidentially and sensitively by line managers and / or HR.
  • You can make a declaration using this form
  • There is a one-page manager's guide which provides an overview of the policy and their role about how to support staff and uphold the policy fairly.

You can read the full policy via the HR webpage.

Under the Office for Students’ Condition E6, we’re committed to creating a safe, respectful environment for everyone. If you’ve experienced or witnessed harassment or sexual misconduct, please visit our Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Hub to report it confidentially and get support.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone in confidence, please contact your HR team.
