The good news is that there are tools to help, available to all staff and students at the University. The Career Readiness team has launched a new online course in Learn CA007 on how to ‘Plan Your Career Journey’.
The course provides resources and activities to help you break down career planning into manageable steps and view it as a journey, rather than a one-off decision.
There are four modules to complete at your own pace:
- Knowing Yourself – discover your strengths, passions and values
- Exploring Opportunities – research career paths and possibilities
- Making Decisions – evaluate your options
- Taking Action – create a practical plan to move forward
Throughout the course, you will reflect on your progress in a career planning journal and by the end, you’ll have a personal career planning and action plan, ready to put into practice. You’ll also gain insights from a recent graduate who shares her advice through short videos.
Students commented on the course: “I like the way it takes you on a journey” and “I liked the resources provided and enjoyed thinking about SMART goals”.
This accessible course presents information in a range of ways. If you have any queries or require additional support, please email Helen Jeffery at H.Jeffery@lboro.ac.uk.
Students who complete the course and all four module feedback forms by midnight on 5 December will be in with a chance of winning a £100 Amazon gift card.
Students are encouraged to follow this with the already popular online course Excel in Employer Selection Processes, also available on Learn. Both courses complement other career planning support available on the Careers Network website and the Personal Best app. Individual careers and enterprise advice is available by appointment, and students can also drop in for quick advice at our newly relocated Careers Hub in Edward Herbert Building (EHB), open 11am-3pm on weekdays during term time.
