The programme will feature two seasonal pieces from Katy Lavinia Cooper’s ‘Twelve Trees’ choral work (words by Catriona Downie), which is inspired by trees, history, folklore and traditional music from the British Isles. The two pieces are ‘No. 11 November – The Holly Tree’ and ‘No. 12 December – Ash Tree’.
In addition to plenty of Christmas favourites, with some possible audience participation, is ‘Navidad Nuestra’ by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramirez. This is a folk drama of the Nativity, based on the rhythms and traditions of Hispanic America. A student guitarist will accompany the Choir for this.
The University Choir is made up of students, staff, alumni and members of the local community. They rehearse on Monday evenings during term time and welcome new members.
