The Hub is a central space for community groups to showcase their projects, share opportunities and connect with University staff. This initiative is a key part of the University’s Vibrant and Inclusive Communities strategic theme, which aims to foster meaningful civic partnerships and encourage active engagement in local development.
As part of the University’s commitment to civic engagement, staff can volunteer their time to support community projects listed on the Hub. All substantive staff are entitled to an annual volunteering day, which can be taken individually or as a team, making it a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community. You can find projects that match your interests and strengths, such as:
- repainting community buildings
- organising fun days out for local groups or primary schools
- cleaning and clearing the canal
- helping at the alpaca farm
- supporting charity events
Jenny Ardley, Community Student and Partnership Manager said: “The Community Hub is about more than just volunteering, it’s about building lasting relationships with our local partners. We want to make it easy for staff to get involved, whether that’s through charity work, environmental projects, or supporting community events."
