Organised by current student Tom Otter, the team are now looking for a group of students who are interested in taking part, whether that be as a speaker or a member of the planning team. No matter your year of study or degree background, all are welcome to apply.
There is a wide variety of roles available, and more details about each of these can be found below. If you would like to apply for one of these roles, please fill out the online form before 27 May.
No previous experience is necessary — just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional event. If you’re ready to challenge yourself and leave your mark on campus, join us in bringing TEDx to life!
If you have any questions about the roles, please contact Tom Otter.
Outline of roles available
- Speakers: You must be able to provide an 8-18 minute talk on a new idea in line with the TED philosophy of talks. This should be backed by research which is verifiable.
- Curator(s): You will be in charge of deciding who will speak at the event. You will create a selection committee (or curation team) of multiple people, so you can provide different perspectives when choosing speakers. You’ll also fact-check speakers and provide support for them to do the best talk they can.
- Selection Committee Member : You will assist in choosing the event speakers, helping to create a speaker list of diverse and well-versed speakers who will be delivering our talks.
- Executive Producer: You will lead all production and planning for the day of the event. You’ll oversee all of the roles happening on the day of your event related to content production, stage management, technology, and video.
- Event Manager: You’ll manage most of the event’s day-of logistics, and be responsible for creating a “TEDx experience” for your guests. You’ll serve as the main contact with your venue’s staff, manage day-of event activities outside of the main stage, and will be in charge of ticketing and registration needs.
- Sponsorships and Budgets Manager: You're responsible for raising money from sponsors for event expenses and managing the event’s finances. Ideally, you will have experience with fundraising and development, as this is one of the most important components of the event planning process.
- Designer: If you’re creative and have experience designing event logos, a website, branding materials or anything else, we want to hear from you.
- Communications, Editorial and Marketing Director: This role will create and manage a strong online presence of your event, including website content, a blog and social media, taking overall responsibility for promoting the event.
- Website Manager: This role may fall under the Communications, Editorial and Marketing Director, but sometimes you’ll need a separate person to manage this significant task. If this sounds like the role for you, you’ll be working with the designer and developers to create a website that is accessible and easily managed, as the main hub for sharing updates with your community.
- Video and Production Lead: You’ll be overseeing the video and production of the event – from managing audio and video needs, camera operators and the livestream of your event.
- General Volunteer: We’re also looking for general volunteers to assist in the delivery of the day, whose responsibilities can vary from looking after speakers, serving drinks and food, to providing directions for parking.
