Originally developed by the University of Queensland, 3MT® is a fast paced, high energy competition that challenges researchers to translate their complex work into a compelling pitch for a non-specialist audience.
Over the past few months, each School has hosted its own 3MT® heats (a total of 90 Doctoral Researchers took part), and now the winners are ready to compete for the University crown.
Meet the finalists:
- Siyuan Li (School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering)
- Nirosha Ushettige (School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering)
- Bahar Moraligi (Loughborough Business School)
- Ben Keyser (School of Design and Creative Arts)
- Aisy Irwan (Loughborough University London)
- Henry Priestley (School of Science)
- Lucy Brennan (School of Social Sciences and Humanities)
- Matthew Putland (School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences)
- Shuxin Meng (School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering)
Our expert judging panel is gearing up for the tough task of selecting the winner. This year’s panel includes:
- Professor Nick Jennings, Vice-Chancellor and President
- Professor Steve Christie, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor - Doctoral College
- Ffyona Baker, Chief People Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer
- Dr Joanne Jennings, Visiting Member
The 3MT® Final is the headline activity of the Summer Showcase, a full-day celebration (9.30am–4.15pm) hosted by Enhanced Academic Practice (Organisational Development and Change) on behalf of the Doctoral College. It’s a vibrant, supportive space for Doctoral Researchers to connect, share their work, and be inspired.
Alongside the 3MT® Final, the Showcase features:
- A poster exhibition
- Images of research exhibition
- An interactive exhibition
- A Rapid Research Relay
- Research vlogs
- A No-bell prize competition
- And a free networking lunch for in-person attendees
There’s still time to book your place to attend in-person or online - don’t miss this celebration of research, creativity, and community!
