Loughborough University’s Community Manager, Jenny Ardley said: “I’m incredibly proud of our students and their ongoing commitment to supporting the local community. Over Easter, we delivered several collections to the Falcon Centre as part of our Give ‘n’ Go campaign. This initiative not only helps reduce landfill waste but also provides much needed support to local charities. It’s a real team effort, made possible through the collaboration of University Security, the Community Warden team, and our colleagues in Sustainability.”
Give ‘n’ Go
Give ‘n’ Go is a campaign run at the end of the academic year as students begin to move out and leave Loughborough for the summer.
The idea of the scheme is that items no longer required can be repurposed and rehomed – giving them a new lease of life and promoting a circular economy by preventing the amount we send to landfill. Items such as unopened cupboard food, electrical goods, books, clothes and shoes, furniture, kitchen items, toiletries, coat hangers and stationery can be donated.
Off-campus students
The Community Warden team will be collecting unwanted items every Wednesday from 14 May until 18 June. Students living off-campus can book a collection of unwanted items from their house using the online booking form.
The off-campus donations will be distributed between several charities including Charnwood Eco Hub, Falcon Support Services, YMCA Leicestershire, Loughborough Area Foodbank and Living Without Abuse.
On-campus students
For on campus students, the Sustainability team will be setting up donation stations in selected common rooms across the University. These stations will be open from 2 June to 14 July, providing a convenient way to donate unwanted items.
The donations are distributed between several charities, giving students the opportunity to have a positive impact on the environment and on the people in the local community. The charities involved include East Midlands Dog Rescue, British Heart Foundation, Better World Books, Shepshed Food Bank and many more.
The donation stations will have labelled sections for each type of item so please ensure you drop items off items at the correct place.
